Melody Becker

Lead Educator

Meet Melody, a second-generation Floridian, Florida Master Naturalist, and Certified Nature Journaling Educator with over 17 years of experience in alternative education. At Florida Adventure Club, Melody focuses on writing Florida-specific nature study curriculum, leading workshops, and organizing camps that encourage families to connect with the natural world. Combining her expertise in marketing and project management, she also helps conservation agencies and eco-education organizations engage learners of all ages across the state by giving them a platform to share their message, find volunteers, and promote events.

Melody’s work is shaped by many influences including forest schools, Charlotte Mason, and the Finnish model of prioritizing time in nature over early academics. She began homeschooling while living in England, where her days were filled with rambling country walks and learning alongside her children. After returning to Florida, she continued their home education journey, raising three boys who have since graduated college. Now, she and her husband Brian are back at the beginning again, homeschooling their youngest, a five-year-old who never stops moving and keeps them both on their toes.

Her hobbies include playing a variety of instruments, hiking, and camping. She is known for collecting mountains of craft supplies with the intention of using them and wandering off to observe birds or collect a cool-looking rock. When she's not teaching or exploring the natural world, Melody is often found searching the house for her phone and glasses or trying to restore order behind her whirlwind kindergartner. As both a homeschool mom and experienced educator, she creates resources that make nature study easy and accessible, so families can spend less time preparing and more time learning together outdoors.

Brian Becker

Science Educator

Meet Brian, our resident science enthusiast and educator. Holding a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Science Education from Concordia University, Brian brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the team. After teaching high school science in the mainstream classroom, Brian left teaching for a time after seeing how many students were being failed by the constraints of a traditional learning environment.

After marrying Melody, Brian found his passion for teaching again and is now dedicated to adventure-based learning. An avid outdoorsman, he thrives on camping and hiking adventures, and his hobbies include traditional furniture making, fly fishing, and mastering wilderness survival skills. As a key collaborator for curriculum writing and the leader of survival skill workshops and events at family camps, Brian is an essential resource for the learning community.

When not teaching or exploring the great outdoors, Brian plays Little John to his energetic five-year-old son's Robin Hood and helps Melody track down her ever-elusive phone and glasses. With his unique blend of expertise and enthusiasm, Brian makes learning an adventure for everyone involved.
