What is a Nature Pod?
Nature Pods are small, family-led groups that meet regularly to explore Florida’s natural world together. Each pod uses the Wild Florida nature study curriculum as a shared guide, giving families a common starting point while leaving plenty of room to follow their own interests.
The curriculum provides weekly lessons and activity options, which pods adapt in ways that fit their group. Some focus on art and journaling, others on science or conservation, and many blend several approaches.
Our free facilitator guide offers weekly suggestions aligned with the curriculum to make planning easy, so you spend more time enjoying nature study and less time having to plan for it. This makes pods simple to start and easy to sustain, even for families who have never led a group before.

Who Pods Are For?
Nature Pods are for everyone because pods are shaped by the families who gather.
Some pods focus on:
-
Young children and early learners
-
Teens and older students
-
Neurodivergent-affirming learning environments
-
Bilingual families
-
Creative nature study through art, journaling, or poetry
-
Science-based exploration and conservation
Families may join an existing pod or start one that reflects their own needs, interests, and season of life. There is no single model to follow. The curriculum provides the anchor, and families choose how to use it.

Facilitator Training and Ongoing Support
Facilitator trainings begin in January 2026 and are designed for families who feel drawn to hosting a Nature Pod but do not want the pressure of building something from scratch. These trainings focus on creating sustainable, welcoming gatherings using the Wild Florida curriculum as a guide. No teaching background or subject-matter expertise is required.
Families who are actively facilitating a Nature Pod receive free access to the Wild Florida curriculum, along with weekly facilitator guides that correspond with each lesson. These guides provide simple suggestions for opening the gathering, choosing activities, and shaping the time together, taking the pressure off planning while allowing each pod to remain flexible and family-led.
Ongoing support is provided through a facilitator Facebook group, shared resources, and direct guidance from Florida Adventure Club’s lead educator and Master Naturalist when questions arise. Our goal is to make it possible for you to focus on connection and learning together, knowing the structure is already in place.
We would love to have you along for the journey.
Whether you are dreaming about starting a Nature Pod or simply hoping to join one nearby, we invite you to let us know. The Nature Pod Project is growing slowly and intentionally, shaped by the families who step forward and say, “This is something we want to be part of.”
By sharing your interest, you are not making a commitment. You are helping us understand where families are located, what kinds of pods they are hoping for, and how we can best support you as this project unfolds.
If this feels like something your family has been longing for, we encourage you to share it with friends who might also be interested. Nature Pods grow best when families invite others they already know, or discover kindred spirits nearby who are hoping for the same kind of connection.
A bit about the why...
Even though I was born in South Florida, my family spent many years living in England, where I was part of a vibrant and deeply connected homeschooling community. More than a decade after moving back, my now adult children are still in touch with the friends they made through their learning pods there. I remain close with many of the mothers I walked alongside, both as a homeschooling parent and as co-director of an alternative education charity.
When I returned to Florida, I found an active homeschool community and a growing number of businesses offering classes and events. Yet, again and again, the mothers I spoke with shared that they felt lonely and disconnected, even while attending activities regularly. There was plenty to do, but fewer opportunities to build the kind of relationships that grow over time.
The Nature Pod Project is my way of offering what we experienced in England as a pathway for families here. Not another program to attend, but a way to help families form small, steady circles where real friendships can take root. These pods are meant to move beyond surface level hellos at events or quick conversations at drop off and instead create space for shared learning, mutual support, and lasting connection.
This desire is not only something I hope to offer other families. As I find myself homeschooling again with our youngest, now five, after his older brothers have grown and moved on, I feel that same longing for community. The Nature Pod Project is as much about rebuilding that beauty for my own family as it is about making it possible for others.

About Membership and Getting Started
The Nature Pod Project is an outreach of the Nature Explorer’s Club. Pods are free of charge for Club members and are centered around the Wild Florida nature study curriculum, which provides the shared foundation for learning together.
Each family participating in a pod holds their own Nature Explorer’s Club membership. This ensures every household has full access to the curriculum for use both during pod gatherings and at home throughout the week. The quarterly membership is $24 per family and includes the complete seasonal Wild Florida curriculum along with access to regional community support.
If you are not yet a Nature Explorer’s Club member, you are welcome to join at any time.
To support families who want to explore the curriculum before committing to a pod, we are currently offering 50% off the Winter curriculum. This gives families the opportunity to use the lessons at home, get a feel for the rhythm, and decide whether joining or starting a Nature Pod in the spring is a good fit.

Every season we offer a free, full unit of study from our curriculum to download. Included is a little guide about the how and why of nature study and using our curriculum with your family.
Each season brings 13 new units of study with tiered activities by age and ability so Wild Florida can be used with the whole family and still be relevant as your children grow and change just like the seasons.
You can read more about the curriculum and the different paths to learning at the link below. Whether on your own as part of a Nature Pod, we hope you choose to join the adventure with us.
