Citrus Hammock Expedition – Guided Nature Hike

Get ready for a hands-on adventure as we explore the wild and winding trails of Citrus Hammock Preserve in Fort Pierce.
This shady, jungle-like habitat is called a hydric hammock. It's a place where water and woodland meet to create the perfect environment for all kinds of Florida plants and wildlife providing a glimpse back in time to a wild Florida filled with swamps and palms.
As we walk the easy half-mile trail, we’ll learn how to tell trees and plants apart just by looking at their leaves. From big, bold palms to tiny, delicate ferns, each leaf tells a story about the plant it grows on. We’ll also look for signs of animals that call this forest home, and take time to observe the way water shapes this habitat through the wet and dry seasons.

This is a free educational event, but we collect a $5 per-family commitment fee to reduce no-shows and ensure accurate attendance. All funds collected help cover administrative costs for this outing and support the development of future educational field trips for our homeschool community.
